Historical
Since 17th Century Robert Boyles experimented on the properties of gases where he derived the inverse relationship between the pressure and the volume of gases, respectively Guillaume Amontons also investigated on the effects of temperature on gas.
In 1886 Karol Olszewski liquefied methane, the primary constituent of natural gas. By 1900 all gases had been liquefied except helium which was liquefied in 1908

By definitions
LNG is the acronym for liquefied natural gas, where Natural gas is 95% methane. Natural gas is actually the cleanest fossil fuel in the global where during combustion of natural gas only water vapor and small amounts of carbon dioxide is emitted, about 30 to 50%lower than other combustible fuel like diesel and coal.

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is natural gas that has been cooled down to liquid form for ease and safety of non-pressurized storage or transport. It takes up about 1/600th the volume of natural gas in the gaseous state (at standard conditions for temperature and pressure)
